About Us
Milton Keynes
Milton Keynes General NHS Trust manages the single District General Hospital in Milton North Buckinghamshire.
One of two acute hospital trusts in Buckinghamshire, the trust is performance managed by the Thames Valley Strategic Health Authority which co-ordinates all the health services performance in Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
The principal commissioner of services is the Milton Keynes Primary Care Trust with co-terminus boundaries. The PCT headquarters and other aspects of local healthcare provision are co-located on the Hospital campus.
The hospital's catchment population of approximately 260,000 is centred on the Borough of Milton Keynes, a unitary local authority. Its rapid growth is expected to continue with the age structure changing as its currently young population ages. The proportion of children is not expected to diminish but the proportion aged over 65 will rise swiftly.
Milton Keynes is a thriving new city, which is being rapidly developed in a designated growth area of North Buckinghamshire, midway between Northampton and Aylesbury. It lies on the M1 and the London-West Coast main line railway. London is 45 minutes by train and London Luton Airport is 30 minutes away. The city offers extensive shopping, sporting, leisure and cultural attractions and is surrounded by superb countryside.
A wide variety of housing is available in the city and the surrounding villages. There is a wide range of schooling, both public and private in and around Milton Keynes.
